Camp LIFE, the time that we totally unplug and immerse ourselves in the Holy Spirit that is ever-present in this place. Sixteen people from Belton, TX went to Zambia in Week 3 to spend time and pour into 160 orphan kids! Over 1000 orphans were in camp this week, seeking hope of a future through the resources of Family Legacy.
This is the recap of that wonderful week on the hilltop outside Lusaka, Zambia for Camp LIFE Week 3!
The theme of Camp LIFE 2016 was that of hope and a future and these kids owned it all week and all summer.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Camp Life is a week-long camp held throughout the summer for orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia, Africa. Each summer over 700 Americans come to Zambia to spend one week leading a group of 10 Zambian children. Throughout the week, Americans spend time with their kids singing songs, playing games, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ.
At the end of the week, each child gets a new shirt and other special blessings. Our desire is to show each child how much God loves them. For many of them, this is the best week of their entire year.
Family Legacy only focuses on the orphan kids of the capital city, Lusaka. They currently have 22 private Legacy Academy Schools in 18 of the slum compounds surrounding the city. Camp LIFE and the resulting sponsorship that comes from it for each child allows them to attend one of the private Legacy Academy schools in their compound.
This attendance allows the breaking of generations long cycles of no education and the chance to break from the poverty and hopelessness that surrounds them. In addition to the first world education, they are given discipleship training to help raise up a new generation of principled people who will one day be in business and politics.
